Fashion resale platform Rebag is launching new Clair AI technology to combat this shortage of knowledge by offering image-recognition services that can identify and price luxury handbags within seconds. In an exercise comparable to Shazam, AI technology—the latest addition to the Clair by Rebag technology suite—scans a handbag via your smartphone to instantly generate the model and current resale value, a submission process which previously took days to complete. Backed by six years of data and millions of handbag image references amalgamated by Rebag, the app-based service operates on a knowledge base of over 50 brands, encompassing 15,000 Clair codes—it actually offers you five options on the off chance the first proposal is incorrect. Though the image-recognition software was initially designed for use on pre-loved handbags in your closet when you’re ready to part ways, you can also snap bags in stores or perhaps on the arm of a stylish friend or passerby. Nor is the technology relegated to tangible interactions. Use it on Instagram, your TV, a magazine, shopping online—anywhere you can produce a clear, front-facing shot.

That knowledge then equips you to enter the secondary market—through Rebag or any similar site—armed with an understanding of the compensation your item deserves. “A tool like Clair AI serves as an educational tool for current and future luxury consumers,” Gorra tells Coveteur, “whether it’s to do something as simple as just identify a handbag, full-stop, or to understand the value of the bags they already own or would like to own.” One quick shot of the bag in question is all you are required to contribute.
