Agile marketing: the 70:20:10 rule

Agile marketing: the 70:20:10 rule | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The 70:20:10 ruleTo borrow another popular concept, I would suggest thinking 70:20:10 makes sense. 70% of your marketing is the planned ‘marketing as usual’ activity. 20% of your marketing should be programmatic.I described this in more depth in a previous article but it is marketing that is more rules-driven and automated in response to various stimuli; so it is not planned, but it is responsive, and, typically, machine-driven and executed.10% of your marketing is purely responsive Oreo-style. For this you typically need people resource available....

Some really good lessons and ideas from these marketing case studies. Key question is can you be agile enough in the future?

Mobile marketers must reach for the stars

Mobile marketers must reach for the stars | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The success of mobile as an advertising medium depends on shifting people’s perceptions about what advertising looks like....

According to new research, the performance of the Mobile Rising Stars is the strongest evidence that creative ad formats far outshine traditional banner advertising.

The study compared the same advertising creative from cookie manufacturer OREO, displayed in both traditional banner and the six new Mobile Rising Stars formats such as the “Slider” and the “Film Strip”,The study compared the ad interaction and brand uplift of static banners with Mobile Rising Star formats, which provide a mix of in-content, expandable, pushdown and overlay advertising, all incorporating rich media functions.

The standout finding from the research, for me, concerned brand recall: almost every user (98%) who viewed a Mobile Rising Star ad recalled the name of the brand advertised – almost a fifth more than those who viewed the standard mobile banner ad.Furthermore, those who interacted with a Rising Star ad were 23% more likely to recall the brand messaging than those who viewed a traditional static banner. This is powerful evidence that consumers want to be able to control whether or not they initiate and interact with ads....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

These new formats for mobile ads out perform traditional banner ads significantly. Valuable information for marketers.

Building an Epic Buyer Persona Profile: a Totally Comprehensive Guide

Building an Epic Buyer Persona Profile: a Totally Comprehensive Guide | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Developing a deep knowledge of your ideal customer, a concept known in the marketing realm as buyer persona profiling, is critical to increasing the relevance of your efforts.

What the Heck is a Buyer Persona?

A buyer persona is a vibrant profile of your company’s ideal customer. This should capture the type of person with an incredible need for your product and a love for your company; who will remain a loyal client for years, and tell all of their friends about how remarkable you are.

More technically, they’re “an example of the real person you need to influence, crafted from specialized interviews you conduct with actual buyers,” in the words of Adele Revella, a leading expert on the topic. When correctly prepared and applied, a buyer persona can help you identify the forms of messaging which will convert the right website visitors into leads, and leads into customer...

Marketing for a Shrinking Niche: Digitally Promoting a Paper Goods Company - Business 2 Community

Marketing for a Shrinking Niche: Digitally Promoting a Paper Goods Company - Business 2 Community | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Depending on who you ask, marketing is either very simple or incredibly complex. But marketing for a small niche that is shrinking rather than growing? That’s a tough job, plain and simple.

Consider this post a sort of case study of one such company and its marketing efforts – a stationery company, to be more specific. While the company is no Dunder Mifflin, Inc., Paper Concierge does deal primarily in a sort of endangered medium. Meanwhile, in efforts to be more eco-friendly, mobile, and tech-laden, consumers are ditching paperbacks and newspapers and paperweights – I could go on, but I won’t – for decidedly un-papered electronics.

So – how do you successfully market (on and offline) for a company that sells paper products?...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

This is a really useful case study in social marketing. Lots of lessons.

ModCloth Hits $100 Million In Revenue, Gives Social All The Credit | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The 'love' button may be the most-clicked on ModCloth's platform. But with $100 M in 2012 revenue, 'checkout' is a close second....

“The ‘love’ button is the most used button on our site,” ModCloth CEO Eric Koger told me this June on a visit to the East Coast from the company’s San Francisco HQ. Tuesday’s announcement that the company he founded back in 2002 with wife Susan Gregg Korger has reached $100 million in 2012 revenue makes another thing clear: the check-out button is closing in on ‘Like’ for number one.

ModCloth’s commitment to a mobile-first, unabashedly social strategy is credited with getting them to the $100 million mark according to today’s press release. According to the founders nearly a third of their traffic is same-day repeat traffic, meaning they’ve visited the site more than once a day as a result of a roll-out of a slew of social features over the past 12 months. Among them: a virtual buyer program that allows users to vote samples into production and a style gallery of user-submitted photos that’s turned the e-commerce platform into its own internal social network. Since its launch last year more than 6,000 outfit photos have been shared through the site....

Shared social content might spark prospects’ interest, but it’s only the first step. Marketers must assume internet users are going to research products and services before converting. The survey confirms this idea, showing that around one-third of consumers buy after visiting one website, but 22 percent go to two domains and 17 percent navigate to a third before making up their minds. Content marketing gives companies a way to ensure effective messages are present at every stop along the way....
