Pinterest launches Article Pins to target readers

Pinterest launches Article Pins to target readers | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Brand new content marketing opportunities on Pinterest. Five million articles are pinned each and every day, according to Pinterest. This segment of readers has never really been targeted by the site known for its glamour shots of food, fashion and crafts. That changes today with the introduction of Article Pins, as revealed in a blog post published on the company’s website....

Article pins join movie, recipe, and product pins as part of the Rich Pin family. Articles will now have more information right on the pin, specifically the headline, author, story description and link.As a marketer, this now offers new opportunities to keep users interacting with article content on sites longer. While Infographics have been wildly successful on Pinterest, the addition of article pins will open up article sharing by a number of new publishing sources.

Adding article pin tags to your sites can allow your blogs, releases or article content to last longer and get shared to an even wider net than before on Pinterest.

Simply put, we have come a long way from simply pinning a headline and a photo. If you’re a business on Pinterest, here’s how to start using rich article pins...

The Ultimate Guide To Pinterest For Every Brand

The Ultimate Guide To Pinterest For Every Brand | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The image-driven network's meteoric rise in only a few years shows the site is more than just a pretty community for people interested in fashion and lifestyle: Marketers are all over Pinterest’s lead-generation aspects, and online hits on products from the site have proved a marketing sensation. According to a study by Shareaholic, the site drives more referral traffic than Google+, YouTube, and LinkedIn combined.

But marketers still struggle to define what makes for a successful Pinterest content strategy--and what does not. Pinterest Adds Price Alerts To Turn Aspirational Pins Into Purchases | TechCrunch

Pinterest Adds Price Alerts To Turn Aspirational Pins Into Purchases | TechCrunch | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...PInterest says that today, there are now tens of millions of product pins on its site, and early results show that these are generating higher clickthrough rates to the e-commerce sites versus regular pins.

The company has said that this year’s focus is on bringing more value to the pins users are saving on the site, not only with richer pins, but also tools for businesses including also improved Pin It buttons which now work in mobile apps, widget builders, and even analytics.

With the debut of price alerting, the company is challenging several startups which help consumers figure out when it is the right time to buy. Some of those are Decide.com, whose focus is more on consumer electronics and larger purchases for the home, plus recently launched Nifti, and even a Pinterest for price drops, Clipix, as well as a slew of older tools for price alerting and tracking sales. More generally, though, this also puts Pinterest up against other social product aggregators like Fancy or Wanelo, the former which has always been more of an actionable, shoppable feed of products, while the other is more focused on making it easier to find what’s popular at your favorite stores....

How To Get A Million Repins On Pinterest: 5 Questions With Better Homes & Gardens

How To Get A Million Repins On Pinterest: 5 Questions With Better Homes & Gardens | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Earlier this month, we learned Better Homes and Gardens ranked in the top five brands for Pinterest boards with the most repins, likes and comments. Here's how they did it....

According to Better Homes and Gardens digital editorial manager Kaelin Zawilinski, BHG started growing their Pinterest audience early on when a few team members received beta Pinterest accounts. Employees from both the print and digital side of the magazine formed an internal group that led the charge to get BHG on Pinterest.

“We knew it was a good fit for the brand,” said Zawilinski. As the digital editorial manager, Zawilinski believes BHG’s brand is always evolving and focused on growing among people and age ranges. “It’s all about creating the place where she [the reader] lives. It’s about the home and family she creates there,” said Zawilinksi, “It’s not only her mom’s magazine anymore, it’s her magazine.”

...“It all comes down to our content,” said Zawilinski, “It’s the type of content that really works well on Pinterest, it’s all very pin-able.”...

If you want to build your following on Pinterest, there's no easy shortcut.

That's the message Pinterest sent to users after the company updated itsAcceptable Use Policy late last week. The subtle changes to the policy now condemn users who pay others to follow them or re-pin their images. In other words, users can't buy new followers or shares.

"We recently updated our Acceptable Use Policy to simplify language and clarify our stance on a few things," a Pinterest spokesperson said in a statement given to Mashable. "We want Pinterest to be a place where people can be authentic and share the things that interest them most, so we now prohibit paying per Pin or follow."...

So now, if you're a brand that wants to take advantage of Pinterest but finds original visual content too high a resource investment for you to make, you don't have to be left out of the Pinterest game. You can pin, say ... those awesome blog articles you're always writing!

The article pins will now include critical information in a more prominent fashion that helps your written content get traction, including

- Source URL

Now you might be saying to yourself, "Self, I used to pin my articles on Pinterest, anyway." Well, good for you for being scrappy -- but now those pins will look waaaay better. Pinterest Is Becoming a Powerful E-Commerce Engine | Social Media Today

Pinterest Is Becoming a Powerful E-Commerce Engine | Social Media Today | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

When the social network of Pinterest first started in March of 2010, people loved it as a visual place to create their holiday “wish-list” boards. They would create boards of stuff they liked online and would never know where it would lead to.Well, these wish-lists are now becoming a true reality, as Pinterest is becoming both a true e-commerce and brick-n-mortar player!

Back in May, the photo-sharing network began allowing “rich pins”, which allows users to post detailed information about an item, such as the originating image site and product purchase information. Now they are taking it one step further by providing price drop summarized email notifications to its users for photos they pinned.

That can be huge for e-commerce, as Pinterest users spend on average of 14 minutes a session on the social network, an eternity in cyber-space!But, not only is Pinterest leading people to a business website for e-commerce purposes but according to recent data distributed by the Vision Council and Harvard Business Review, 21% of Pinterest users had bought an item in an actual store after pinning, repining or liking the item on Pinterest....

The minute I looked at Pinterest I knew it would be for me.  As a user.  As a marketing tool, that's been a little slower in the making.  This is an interesting piece so do enjoy.  I think a carefully crafted campaign to make use of the goodwill on the channel, giving lots of value and carefully crafted links etc. could in the right hands create a nice little thread to follow.

Have you thought of using Pinterest this way?

Al Gregorios's curator insight, August 27, 2013 4:36 PM

I remember when pinterest is just starting up. Most of the user would just pin random stuff and ofcourse their personal links without and good graphics or images in the post. Then you can see random un-organized boards as a result of manipulative link building (they say) without any purpose at all. Now online stores have seen the power of pinterest and the ability to organized their product images along with products description and URL, and they have used it for Marketing Purposes. Hope this post will teach other SEO Specialist how to use pinterest the right way.
