How to Make Your Content Mobile Friendly | Duct Tape Marketing

How to Make Your Content Mobile Friendly | Duct Tape Marketing | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
When I think about the work I do these days very little of it actually needs to be done on a real computer.

...Content consumption is already headed towards the 50% mark in terms of mobile vs. laptop as the reader of choice. On my site mobile devices account for right at 15% of all traffic today. That’s up over 150% over last year at this time and represents a 16% increase from just last month.

The point is you must package your content in ways that the growing legions of tablet and mobile consumers can enjoy or run the risk of turning this important readership away....

John Jantsch at Duct Tape Marketing shows how mobile is becoming a powerful tool, channel and trend. Useful advice.

Mobile Is Driving Growth in Social Media Consumption

Mobile Is Driving Growth in Social Media Consumption | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
As marketers zero in on mobile and social media for the coming year, it turns out that one may be benefiting the other, according to a new report from Nielsen.

In July 2012, Americans spent 32.7 billion more minutes accessing social media sites than in July 2011. More than half of that consumption growth (18.9 billion minutes) was derived from additional time spent visiting social media sites via the mobile web or mobile applications, as consumers devoted 30% of their mobile time to social networks. That compares with 20% of PC time spent with social networking – with an astounding 17% of total PC time spent on Facebook.

40% of SocNet Consumption Now From Mobile
Details from Nielsen’s “The Social Media Report 2012″ reveal that 34% of social media time spent in July 2012 was on mobile apps, as consumers grew their social app consumption by 76%, from a total of 23.2 billion minutes to 40.8 billion....

Want to know about the future of social? Look where mobile’s going | memeburn | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Mobile has proliferated every free second we have — social media is one of the bits of content we happen to consume on our phones and tablets — but it is by no means the only thing. The lesson to be heeded here (especially if you have rich media content to distribute) is do not just post it to Facebook and Twitter and hope that it reaches your audience. Chances are that a small sliver of your audience will see it; but more importantly ensure that your entire arsenal of online marketing weaponry is mobile ready — if not mobile first.

As the holiday shopping period approaches, several new studies point to the fact that small and medium-sized U.S. businesses (SMBs) remain woefully unprepared to attract and engage customers via their mobile devices. An SMB DigitalScape study released by vSplash, based on an analysis of two million small business websites, learned that 98% of SMBs still do not have mobile-optimized sites.

A second study, commissioned by Google (and conducted by Sterling Research and SmithGeiger), found that three-quarters of visitors to a mobile-friendly site will return to that site, while 79% of people who find a site difficult to use on their mobile device will give up and look for another site. The Google study also found that 48% of users say they feel frustrated and annoyed when they get to a site that's not mobile-friendly....

Mobile Marketing's Advantage Over Online Marketing [INFOGRAPHIC]

Mobile Marketing's Advantage Over Online Marketing [INFOGRAPHIC] | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Ninety-eight percent of all SMS and MMS messages are opened by users, according to a new infographic by MOGREET.

Social media isn’t the new kid on the block anymore. Instead, mobile marketing is taking over, and many have hope that it will prove more effective than Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and even email.

Ninety-eight percent of all SMS and MMS messages are opened by users, while a whopping 84 percent of newsfeed aren’t read, 71 percent of tweets go unnoticed, and 88 percent of emails aren’t opened, according to a new infographic by MOGREET.

In addition, the total number of mobile device users is higher: 234 million people have cell phones, while 161 million people total are on Facebook, Pinterest, and Google+ in the United States.

As Gene Sigalov of Content Marketing Institute points out, text message marketing is a form of active engagement — unlike social media sites, where people aren’t reached in a one-on-one fashion. The infographic calls it ”narrowcast.”...

Despite a significant increase in the number of mobile-driven “Likes” on Facebook brand pages this year, many companies are still not optimizing their social experiences for mobile.

New research from social media solutions provider Friend2Friend’ found that while mobile “Likes” on brand pages have increased 500 percent since earlier this year, 7 out of 10 Facebook campaigns from large brands do not work on mobile. While there has been much discussion about Facebook needing to up its game in the mobile, the data suggests that brands also hold some of the responsibility for the inadequate mobile social experience....

25 Reasons Why You Should Have a Mobile Friendly Website | Business 2 Community

25 Reasons Why You Should Have a Mobile Friendly Website | Business 2 Community | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Just because your regular website doesn’t have Flash on it, doesn’t mean it’s a mobile friendly Website.

A mobile Friendly website needs to be carefully planned to make sure that users viewing your site on a smaller screen or over 3G can get access to the important information that they need without compromising their user experience.

This may take a little investment, or some time spent redesigning things slightly and if that’s the case don’t be put off! Mobile usage has risen steadily over the last few years and now represents too large a chunk of the market to dismiss.

This isn’t just my opinion, here are 25 reasons why you should have a Mobile Friendly Website...

Mobile Marketing Too Large For Brands To Ignore

Mobile Marketing Too Large For Brands To Ignore | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

In all honesty when I wrote the title for this article I had to catch myself for I could not believe that such a title would still be necessary in this day and age.

According to the press release announcing the findings, the study revealed “4 in every 5 smartphone users – 85.9 million in total – accessed retail content on their device in July” alone. Leading the way were Amazon Sites which came in as the top retailer with an audience of 49.6 million visitors. And far as bricks and mortars go, Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy were the top 3 in terms of smartphone visitors.

But what caught my eye was the quote from Donovan which inspired my title:
“With nearly 86 million Americans now shopping on their smartphones, this pronounced shift in consumer behavior is simply too large for retailers to ignore, with the future of their business depending on how well they adapt to the new environment.”...

Mobile Web Searches To Surpass Desktop Web Search By 2013 – Is Your Website Ready? | Business 2 Community

Mobile Web Searches To Surpass Desktop Web Search By 2013 – Is Your Website Ready? | Business 2 Community | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It's been mentioned in various blogs - I even heard it directly from someone who works at Google.  By 2013 - it is expected that mobile web searching will surpass desktop web searches.

There are roughly 644 million active websites out there right now. Some studies have estimated that 80% of consumers abandon a website because it isn’t mobile friendly.

Are you one of them?

Go ahead – pull out your Droid or iPhone and check out your site. Do you have to pinch your fingers in order to see the text or navigation? If so – it’s safe to say 80% of your mobile traffic leaves right away – and you’re losing business....

Mobile Friendly Website Design – Why Does Your Business Need One? | Business 2 Community

Mobile Friendly Website Design – Why Does Your Business Need One? | Business 2 Community | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

A Mobile friendly Website Design is More Important than Ever… In the UK there are 23 million smart phone users over the age of 13, an increase of over 50% year on year.*

57% of customers said they would not recommend a business with a poor mobile experience, while 40% said they would switch to a competitor offering a better one, according to a 2011 study by Compuware....

The downside to this is when they are directed to your site and it is not optimised for mobile it will not display properly. In fact, any websites built with Flash will not display at all on iPhones or iPads. 35.1 million iPhones were sold in Q2 2012 alone and they will just show a blank screen.

If users cannot easily find the information they are looking for they will simply click back to the search engine and go to your competitor’s website....
