While not as illustrious as other sites, LinkedIn has developed a solid footing by becoming the main portal for businesses and professionals to establish a presence online. While it doesn’t have the user numbers Facebook boasts, its main pull is its ability to generate leads for businesses and customers. Back in January, Hubspot compiled a study that found LinkedIn generated the highest visitor-to-lead conversion rate at 2.74 per cent, three times higher than both Twitter and Facebook.

Now new research has emerged which shows that the gap separating LinkedIn with Facebook and Twitter has increased with the site’s visitor-to-lead conversion rate being four times greater, according to new findings from Hubspot....

McKay Flooring are a family business established for 40 years. I think they give a great example of how smaller businesses can be creative in using social media marketing to expand their reach.

 

What caught my interest was the way that they use some of the newer social media marketing platforms like Pinterest and Instagram for competitions. These are all promoted through their blog, which is also a great example of how a specialist blog can act as a social hub for campaigns, while also building the credibility of a company by using testimonials and linking to product categories on the main site....

...In 2010, Weber Shandwick released a study on the state of leadership reputation (Socializing Your CEO: from (Un) Social to Social), stating that 64% of the surveyed CEOs did not engage through company websites or social media outlets.

 

“There are several reasons why CEOs are not more Social,” wrote Leslie Gaines-Ross, Weber Shandwick’s Chief Reputation Strategist. ”Time is better spent with customers and employees…the return on investment has not yet been proven, legal counsel tends to caution against it and anything that smacks of ‘celebrity CEO’ is a no-win.”...

 

As for ROI, the evidence is growing. Earlier this year, the Chief Strategy Officer of Dachis Group, Peter Kim, published 101 Examples of Social Business ROI. Among them...

As Pinterest continues to gain popularity, expect more creative campaigns. On Twitter, there are only words, and Facebook doesn’t have the same visual capabilities. Since people are more attracted to visuals online, perhaps content marketing efforts will shift to promoting photographs and images on Pinterest instead. Only time will tell....

Earlier this morning the team at SocialMediaExaminer.com released their annual report on the state of Social Media Marketing.

 

...As with any surveys of this type, you have to remember that the people who responded are already a self selected audience of business owners who care about social media. So it's not surprising when the survey reports that "94% of respondents indicated they are employing social media for marketing purposes."

 

Still in reading over the report, there were several conclusions that I took from reading between the lines that I found interesting for anyone who is grappling with the challenge of how to effectively integrate social media into their marketing....
