Use Design to Elevate Your Content Marketing

Use Design to Elevate Your Content Marketing | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

We are a visual culture. People respond better to visual content and even process information more efficiently when presented in a visual way. With so many performance advantages, it’s clear how design can elevate written content.

With the convincing out of the way, let’s talk about specific ways to introduce design and visual storytelling into your content marketing strategy.

We all know that blog posts need images but are you using enough?

One of the best ways to increase the reach of your content is with the right amount of images. BuzzSumo did the math for us, and found that the right amount of images is one every 75-100 words:

“In a study of over one million articles, BuzzSumo looked at how many blog posts with images were shared. Then they looked at how many images, per how many words, got the best results. What they found was articles with an image once every 75-100 words got double the amount of shares of articles with fewer images.”...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Nick Bowersox says plan your content marketing strategy, and use design and visual storytelling to differentiate your content from the competition.

Consistent use of good design and visual storytelling will differentiate your brand, help you communicate more efficiently, and ultimately put your content in front of more potential customers.

Sick of Stock Photos? Use Memes to Liven Up Your Content. - Business 2 Community

Sick of Stock Photos? Use Memes to Liven Up Your Content. - Business 2 Community | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...So even if you don’t “do” Pinterest or Instagram, your content needs to have some kind of visual element if it’s going to rack up likes and shares. This is, of course, great news if you’re naturally creative with visuals…

But if you’re like me, it means you’re likely to be stuck with stock photography. As Seinfeld would say, “not that there’s anything wrong with that,” but when you pull up “happy-woman-at-computer.jpg” for the umpteetnth time, you start looking around for something with a little more pizazz.

Enter the meme. If you’ve never heard of memes (pronounced meemz), I guarantee you’ve seen at least one. They’re those funny images you see all over Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere on the inter-tubes with different messaging embedded. One of my favorites is the Boromir ”One Does Not Simply …” image from Lord of the Rings that I’ve included above. Look familiar?

The good news is that you don’t need Photoshop to create and share your very own memes—just an Internet connection. There are several (free) meme creation websites out there; I’m partial to memegenerator.net, which is super-easy to use...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Good tip for better visual marketing and the suggestion of the meme generator tools is a good one. You too can create your own memes but do it judiciously or you'll just look silly and certainly not get results.

How to Create High-Quality Blog Graphics

How to Create High-Quality Blog Graphics | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Creating high-quality blog graphics is an integral part to producing a catchy, highly shareable post.

According to media theorist John Berger, in his book Ways of Seeing, "Seeing comes before words." This statement supports the assertion that high-quality blog graphics can attract (or repel) readers instantly and affect them viscerally, without them having to read anything first. After all, from an evolutionary perspective, humans are genetically wired to respond to visuals faster, as text is a relatively newer invention....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Here's a good collection of tips on creating better graphics for your blog.

According to Jeff Bullas, articles with images get 94% more total views than articles without images. Ninety-four percent! If I were to tell you that you could expand your reach by 94% by doing something fairly simple, I'm guessing you wouldn't think twice.

Of course, "simple" is relative. I don't mean you should take five minutes to scope  out some stock photos   and then insert them randomly into your posts. New Research Study Breaks Down "The Perfect Profile Photo"

New Research Study Breaks Down "The Perfect Profile Photo" | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The perfect profile photo for professionals, is revealed by PhotoFeeler's first major research study.

Profile photos are so essential to modern communication that a good one's become a basic necessity. And that couldn't be truer than for those of us whose professional lives are tied to social media profiles.

That's why we at PhotoFeeler decided to set our first major study on the goal of targeting just a few, over-arching guidelines. That is, we asked ourselves— if we set aside characteristics like gender, age, and physical traits, to focus only on what we can easily control— what elements reliably produce a better professional headshot photo (for use on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)?...

The world's largest photo service just made its pictures free to use

The world's largest photo service just made its pictures free to use | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

If you go to the Getty Images website, you'll see millions of images, all watermarked. There are more than a hundred years of photography here, from FDR on the campaign trail to last Sunday's Oscars, all stamped with the same transparent square placard reminding you that you don't own the rights. If you want Getty to take off the watermark, you'll have to pay for it.

"OUR CONTENT WAS EVERYWHERE ALREADY.

"Starting now, that's going to change. Getty Images is dropping the watermark for the bulk of its collection, in exchange for an open-embed program that will let users drop in any image they want, as long as the service gets to append a footer at the bottom of the picture with a credit and link to the licensing page. For a small-scale WordPress blog with no photo budget, this looks an awful lot like free stock imagery....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

This is great news for bloggers with no budget. If you're willing to embed a photo with a caption credit, Getty Images are free to use.
