The Story of Storyblocks, A Letter From Our Founder - Storyblocks Blog

The Story of Storyblocks, A Letter From Our Founder - Storyblocks Blog | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
In 2009, I started a stock media company with a single vision: to provide premium creative content that everyone could afford. This idea grew into VideoBlocks, followed by the launch of GraphicStock and AudioBlocks. Now, we’re adding millions of photos to our new image Marketplace and it’s time to bring our expanding libraries together as Storyblocks.
Jeff Domansky's insight:

Formerly Graphic Stock, newly-renamed and upgraded, Storyblocks is an improved one-stop-shop for high quality stock media at a fraction of the cost, with millions of images, videos, audio clips, and more! A favorite tool, modestly priced and highly recommended. 9.5/10

The Ultimate Directory of Free Image Sources

The Ultimate Directory of Free Image Sources | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

While these websites do not actually contribute image content themselves, they’re able to index images in a way that makes it easier to search for free content. Because the images come from a variety of sources, it is important to note that these websites tend to have a worse track record when it comes to filtering inappropriate content for students.

When it comes to searching for images for my blog, Bing is the clear winner for one simple reason; while Google and Yahoo also allow you to filter by license types, Bing is the only one that will search strictly public domain images. You can’t beat public domain when it comes to blog images. You can freely modify images, use them commercially, and no attribution (or research into attribution) is needed....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Older resource for visuals but Dan Leeman's sources for free images are organized to help you find what you’re looking for. And he has a list of terrific niche sources like photos of the earth, archives and categories of all types. My current fav is Pixabay!

Say Cheese for These 7 Free Stock-Photo Sites

Say Cheese for These 7 Free Stock-Photo Sites | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Whether you promote content that is fresh or seasonal, evergreen or topical, your endeavor will be meaningless if it doesn’t make your readers sizzle and pop with excitement. How do you capture the attention of your audience without crafting content from scratch?

Perhaps all you need is a high-quality photo. Not a bland, lifeless image, but an attention-grabbing picture — one with a story behind it. Maybe you need a series of compelling images if you’re marketing a lengthy content piece.

Research shows that:

  • Color visuals increase a person’s willingness to go through a content piece by 80%.
  • Posts or articles with images receive 94% more views than posts or articles without images.
  • Understanding of content jumps from 70% to 95% with the integration of images....
Jeff Domansky's insight:

These seven free stock photo sites are an excellent resource for bloggers, PR and marketers. Highly recommended. 10/10

Also my personal fav is Pixabay.com.

14 Amazingly Free Stock Photo Websites

14 Amazingly Free Stock Photo Websites | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

If you've ever tried searching for free stock photos on the Internet, you probably know what a ridiculous hassle it can be.

As a general rule, free stock photos are extremely difficult to find. A huge portion of the stock photo market is owned by professional companies like Shutterstock and 123RF, who charge $20 or more for a single photo. Even when you can find free stock photos, most are low resolution, watermarked, blurry and, at best, uninspired.

Lucky for you, there are a few ways to access high-quality stock photos without any hassle or significant cost.

Here's a lovingly curated list of the world's best free stock photo websites for designers, business owners and anyone else...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Casey Ark highlights 14 free stock photo sources. Highly recommended for bloggers, marketers and content marketing pros 10/10

13 Ultimate Free Stock Photo Sites for your Presentation or Online Course

13 Ultimate Free Stock Photo Sites for your Presentation or Online Course | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Some of these sites I’ve been using for years, like when I was creating my most recent SlideShare deck: 7 Ways to Grow Your Online Course Audience.

Others are newer finds from some trusted resources, like Buffer blog, nu School, andBootstrap Bay.

The following sites made the list because one, the photos they share are beautiful, and two, the photos are compelling images that do not look like the typical, generic stock image. The photos make an impact. Plus searching around the sites aren’t difficult either.

Importantly, I’ve done all the hard work for you. I’ve checked to make sure that each photo site in this list falls under the Creative Commons Zero license. AKA they are free to use for your commercial and personal needs!  (Find a more detailed legal explanation at the end)...

In Praise of the Peculiar: How and Why to Use Surreal Images - Web Design Ledger

In Praise of the Peculiar: How and Why to Use Surreal Images - Web Design Ledger | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

“Humans are complex and unpredictable, and there’s no reason why brand visuals can’t be, too.” – Lauren Catten, Art Director at Getty Images

Imagination is one of the four factors that make for a powerful image, and nothing stirs it more than Surreality – one of iStock & Getty Images’ 2016’s top visual trends.

The reason is simple: these original and sometimes peculiar compositions trigger a feeling of pleasure in experiencing the unpredictable. The aesthetic can transform an ordinary topic into something new and exciting. It can help distinguish a brand in a sea of similarity, making for memorable content that leaves a lasting impression. And, thanks to its hyper-immersive, psychedelic visuals, it has very broad appeal.

Nature-related images work as a particularly potent metaphor in this realm, leaving room for interpretation and creating meaningful connections with your content....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Some interesting ideas on how and why to use surreal images to generate interest and attention.

The death of stock photos

The death of stock photos | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

A woman being accosted by floating hamburgers, a man with an eyepatch holding an abacus, and an astronaut feeding a horse in a harem costume may seem like scenes out of a dystopian sci-fi novel, but they are not. They are examples of the bizarre world of stock photos, where images are as ridiculous as they are useless.

While these may be extreme examples, the fact remains that stock photos do not depict reality. They show a world of homogeneous families, smiling employees in offices, and couples frolicking on beaches at sunset. Consumers do not connect with these generic, out-of-touch images, and brands that use them risk coming off as generic and out-of-touch as well....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Some stock photos are patently ridiculous, ineffective and their time is long gone. Welcome to the era of user generated content.
