The New York Public Library just uploaded nearly 200,000 images you can use for free | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The New York Public Library just released a treasure trove of digitized public domain images, everything from epic poetry from the 11th century to photographs of used car lots in Columbus, Ohio from the 1930s. Over 180,000 manuscripts, maps, photographs, sheet music, lithographs, postcards, and other images were released online Wednesday in incredibly high resolution, and are available to download using the library's user-friendly visualization tool. It's a nostalgist's dream come true....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

An excellent, free resource for high quality historical photos when you need them.

How to 'Un-Stock' Your Photography: 8 Examples That'll Change the Way You Choose Photos

How to 'Un-Stock' Your Photography: 8 Examples That'll Change the Way You Choose Photos | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Think of all the photos of smiling receptionists and perfectly suited business leaders you've come across. These images may compete for attention, but often fail to register, simply because your customers can’t identify with them.

Use photos that more closely relate to your audience. It’s what we call "real photography" here at EyeEm: Unique captures, delightful moments, and surprising perspectives. Images that are more concrete will resonate with audiences much more powerfully since they show real life rather than staged situations.

To visualize what we mean, we put together a handful of generic images alongside a ‘real’ counterpart sourced from our community of photographers. The proof is in the pictures, but we'll let you see for yourself....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Learn how to choose more authentic images for your marketing efforts by checking out these eight examples.

15 Best Free Stock Photo Websites

15 Best Free Stock Photo Websites | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Recently I have seen more and more beautiful photos used on websites, themes, design mockups and shots on Dribbble. I don’t know who has started this out but I highly appreciate Unsplash initiative for providing beautiful free stock photos to do whatever you want. I have been inspired by this movement and started sharing some of my best mobile photos on Refe as well.

As a designer personally, I can’t stand ugly cliché stock photos, amateur level pictures and other low quality imagery used in any form of design. I am constantly in search of beautiful photos for my personal and client work and thought that you may find this collection useful....

37+ Tips and Tools for Picture-Perfect Visual Content

37+ Tips and Tools for Picture-Perfect Visual Content | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

I’m sure I won’t blow your mind by saying that visuals are essential to creating content that will help your business stand out and draw in an audience. Not only do images help make text-centric content more readable, digestible, and memorable, but they can also be used to craft compelling messages that speak volumes without using a single word — just ask anyone who has posted a photo on Instagram or created a “Snap” to share a memorable moment with friends.

Nearly a year ago, I compiled a collection of best-practice tips from some of the industry’s most creative and design-minded content experts, along with helpful imaging tools and examples. But, considering how rapidly visual trends come and go, we at CMI felt it was time to take another look at how to let your brand’s photos, videos, and graphics do the talking.

Of course, we wouldn’t want a retrospective on such an image-conscious topic to show visible signs of aging; we’ve freshened up the discussion with a few new tips, tricks, and takeaways....

Finding great stock photos is a pain. You’re left with either low-res amateur photos, people wearing cheesy headsets, or photos that are out of budget for the project you’re working on. Below is an ongoing list (so bookmark it) of the best stock photo sites I’ve come across.
