Social Proof Is the New Currency | Social Media Today

Social Proof Is the New Currency | Social Media Today | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Businesses that can integrate social proof into their marketing efforts seamlessly will join this new “socially rich” class - rich in fans and followers, not number of zeroes in your bank account.

...You see, people care about what others think. When we buy stuff, we want to know what others think about it first. A 2012 Nielsen survey indicated that 92% of people globally trust word-of-mouth recommendations from friends and family.

Happily for customers, the power of the Internet allows customers to access a vast wealth of information that is literally right at their fingertips. 85% of consumers say that they refer to online reviews before making a purchase at a local business, and 67% of shoppers read 6 online reviews or less before feeling that they can trust the business....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Social proof is fast becoming a valuable currency in the social marketing world.

Why You Are Ignoring The Most Important Data | Social Media Explorer

Why You Are Ignoring The Most Important Data | Social Media Explorer | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The current fad of big data has caused marketers to ignore the requirement that humans need to analyze conversations...

...Big data is the allure of more. More information. More access to behavior. Opportunities for more sophisticated analysis. The thinking goes likes this: If we know every move people make then we not only know everything, but we can predict everything. As business people we love it because the information is finite, scalable and measurable.

It’s ironic that big data has such an allure in an age when some of the most important information happening online is coming out of conversations. And the way to analyze online conversations is to read them, participate in them and try to understand them without a formula.

Conversations are not data. Anyone who has ever tried to analyze them through sentiment analysis knows this. If you ever watched Star Trek, you can imagine clearly that even an advanced, science fiction character like Data, misunderstood human conversation....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Great quote: "Conversations are not data."

If you're not listening, you're losing track of invaluable insight.

What is the Best Time to Post in Social Media? | Windmill Networking

What is the Best Time to Post in Social Media? | Windmill Networking | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Social Media - But is there an ultimate answer to the perfect time to post? Time may or may not be on your side, but it is at your disposal and direction.

...So what’s the best time to post:  weekday, weeknights or weekends?  Unfortunately, if you survey enough reports you may find that the definitive answer is a bit murky.  Frankly, nothing beats your own analytics (via Bitly, Argyle, HootSuite, SproutSocial, Google Analytics, etc.) to assess the posting times that work best foryour content and your followers.

Bitly metrics may provide some guidance, and they are extensively quoted.  For Twitter, Bitly rightly noted that you should assess the volume of people who are active in conjunction with the total number of posts vying for attention.  Translation: pick a slow time with maximum user vigilance....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Always good for a debate: best times to post on various social media.

Will The Personalised Web Destroy Discovery? | Simply Zesty

Will The Personalised Web Destroy Discovery? | Simply Zesty | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It’s been a big week for the evolution of the personalised web, led by Mark Zuckerberg and the unveiling of Graph Search. Much as the product has been lauded –  it filling a gap in social search that we didn’t even really know existed – it has also been met with some criticism, not least around the fact that it limits the breadth of information you can access. The more tailored you make your search, the more limited the search results will be, with the default option of showing you Bing results really being no different to the current search experience in Facebook.

The biggest question that Graph Search raises – and this applies to the personalised web overall – is whether personalisation will ultimately destroy discovery....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

This is a really great question to ponder for any social media pro.

Facebook Is Completely Changing How Some Big Brands Make Their Products

Facebook Is Completely Changing How Some Big Brands Make Their Products | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Burberry knows how many people want items before they've made them.

Many companies see social media as just another marketing and communications tool. A particularly effective one maybe, but just another of many.

According to Erich Joachimsthaler, founder and CEO of Vivaldi Partners, they're missing out on the biggest source of value from these platforms. In a recent report, he outlines how brands can use social media to change their entire business, not just their marketing....

Here is What Happens Online in 60 Seconds ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Here is What Happens Online in 60 Seconds ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Today's post is not about multitasking though I would love to write about it in a future post. The purpose of this present article is to share with you this awesome graphic which chronicles what happens online in 60 seconds.

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Fascinating and overwhelming at the ame time. No wonder we're overwhelmed sometimes!

Stephanie Katcher's curator insight, July 26, 2013 6:15 PM

As our life becomes intertwined with our virtual existence we may neglect to realize what happens in sixty seconds is cumulatively astronomical, but intimately pointless. Participation in the information age is vital but the "endless" internet erases the participants ability to rely of clear boundaries and structure. It becomes more and more important that individuals understand their purpose, and their intentions so that they can leverage the digital world to their advantage not their demise.

#lifehack #infinite #opportunity #distraction

Science reveals what really increases Twitter followers | Poynter

Science reveals what really increases Twitter followers | Poynter | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The world of science has some new advice for people who want to increase their Twitter following, and it may sound something your mother used to say: If you don’t have anything nice to tweet, don’t tweet at all.

“Expressing negative sentiments in tweets is the second most harmful factor to growing a Twitter audience,” say researchers from the Georgia Institute of Technology. They speculate about why: “This might be because Twitter is a medium dominated by very weak social ties, and negative sentiment from strangers may be unpleasant or uncomfortable for a potential new follower to see.”...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Valuable insight and guidance for tweeters...

Whether You Like it Or Not, You Need #Klout | Social Media Today

Whether You Like it Or Not, You Need #Klout | Social Media Today | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It seems to me that whenever I bring up the topic of Klout, I get three types of reactions. One type of reaction is confusion – “what is Klout?” or “I have heard of it but not sure what it really is”. Another type of emotional response is passionate hate and anger whenever anything about Klout is mentioned. Then the last form of response is understanding it and wanting to learn ways to work with Klout and use it to the individual’s best advantage....

Your Klout Score Does Matter

Yes, it does. Especially if you are a business owner or are in fields that involve marketing, PR, coaching, music, writing, politics, or anything that involves social media – which has become more prevalent now and will continue to do so – you need to face the fact that your Klout score is looked at more than you realize....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

The case for Klout: Yes, your score does matter.

Social Media Will Be Primary Channel for Engaging Customers, CEOs Predict | MediaPost

Social Media Will Be Primary Channel for Engaging Customers, CEOs Predict | MediaPost | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Social media will be the most important technology channel used by companies to engage with their customers within three to five years, according to a survey of 1,700 CEOs from around the world conducted by IBM. Currently just 16% of companies use social media as their primary means of interacting with customers, but that proportion will rise to 57% three to five years from now.

That increase will put social media ahead of Web sites, call centers, and traditional media. Over the same time period, CEOs see Web site utilization increasing from 47% to 55%, while call center utilization will drop from 40% to 31%, and utilization of traditional media will plunge from 39% to 15%. The only channel outranking social media is face-to-face and sales representatives, although this too will drop from 80% today to 67% three to five years from now....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Ironic. Research shows that CEOs don't use social media themselves. But the trend to "social business" is unstoppable.

2012 was Google+'s first full year in operation, so what did Google's young social network achieve in the past year? How many active users does Google+ have

...2012 was Google+’s first full year in operation, and it’s been an eventful one for the site.  Google has spent much of the year rolling out new features and heavily promoting those already available on the site. But in spite of its barrage of promotion, we are still unsure how many people actually use the site....

So who is actually using the site?  According to an infographic released by Google 500 million users have “upgraded” to Google+, meaning they have logged in and had a look around the site.  Of this half billion, Google says that it has 235 million active users posting on the site....

Jeff Domansky's insight:
