The Big Social Media Design Trends In 2015 | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Younger generations have officially begun choosing to avoid or least maintain a low profile on Facebook and Twitter — for many years seen as the two most used and relevant social networks.

In fact, that might be the very reason they are choosing to avoid the giants of the social media world –everybody else is there, and both are saturated with targeted ads and irrelevant content.

So, where are those users headed now, and what are the key trends for social media in 2015?
Jeff Domansky's insight:

Owen Andrew shares a useful list of social media trends including single use platforms, intuitive design, social selling, privacy, crowdsourcing, one-on-one communications and more.

Nielsen global share community report may 2014 | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Welcome to the share economy, also known as collaborative consumption and peer-to-peer rental arrangements, where people around the world leverage unused capacity of things they already own or services they can provide by leveraging them for a profit. A down economy, coupled with the ease-of-use and reliability of the Internet, has given rise to a network of part-time entrepreneurs turning personal assets into income....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Nielsen research study provides fascinating insight into the new global trend called collaborative consumption.

Interesting study.  Nielsen finds that people are willing to share/rent their underutilized physical assets for a profit.  I wonder if nonprofits can take advantage of this trend?

Where will Social Media Users go in 2017?

Where will Social Media Users go in 2017? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

As social media networks continue to evolve at a breakneck speed, so does the demographic of users on the respective platforms. We looked at the data and pulled together current 2016 trends with early predictions about where social media users will go in 2017.

Key points

- Facebook isn’t dead, yet. Millennials are still on Facebook, they’re just using the platform in a different way than their older counterparts. Rather than sharing personal stories and updates, they’re sharing third-party content.

- Instagram ads bring big brand awareness. 97% of branded Instagram campaigns have generated a significant increase in ad recall. This is expected to grow even more as Instagram ad targeting becomes even more advanced.

- Video will dominate. Video content will be responsible for 85% of search traffic in the US by 2019. There is already a massive rise in video content, especially on Facebook.

- Snapchat might revolutionize ads. Leaked documents from the company show Snapchat is looking to capitalize on their large, young demographic. This includes image recognition technology to introduce a new round of advertisements that encourage users to share a brand’s message through user-generated content....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

As social media networks continue to evolve, so do consumers. NewsCred pulled together predictions about where social media users will go in 2017.

Reflections on the changing digital agency environment

Reflections on the changing digital agency environment | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

We live in interesting times in the digital agency world – a time of constant change in our business landscape that provides both immense opportunity and a real threat to the survival of agencies that fail to adapt.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this landscape over the last year or so. I’ve spoken with team members and peers in Canada, and with senior colleagues across our global network. As I’ve done so, I’ve highlighted five key landscape shifts that are changing the way that agencies and teams like ours need to operate:

1.  Newly (re-)accelerated change in social networks

2.  Less “social”, more “media”

3.  Decline of community management (in some areas)

4.  The (actual) year of mobile

5.  Ubiquity of rich media...

Millennials Put Premium On Digital Relationships

Millennials Put Premium On Digital Relationships | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

For better or worse, younger consumers are more able to form meaningful relationships through digital channels.
That, at least, is according to new research from digital marketing agency Deep Focus, which based its findings on a survey of 901 “mainstream” 18-34s, and 302 18-34 “trendsetters,” late last year.

In fact, more than one-third of this demographic now consider “eLationships” as meaningful as in-person relationships, Deep Focus finds.

Plus, nearly a third (32%) of the young respondents reported feeling “close” to people they had only met online, while more than three-quarters (76%) said they had friendships based solely on social-media interactions....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

eLationships? I like the concept and apparently so do members of the Millennial generation. Recommended reading for marketers of every stripe.

Twitter taking businesses to new heights

Twitter taking businesses to new heights | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Case study: Virgin America is using its Twitter presence to handle everything from seat changes to cocktail requests—even at 35,000 feet.

Steve Jenkins was waiting for takeoff when he noticed it—his boarding pass for Virgin America Flight 753, bound for San Francisco, was missing his frequent flier number. He could have flagged a flight attendant. He could have called customer service. Instead, Jenkins, the CEO of a Seattle-based gaming company, decided to pick up his phone and tweet.

Four minutes later, Virgin America responded:Jenkins messaged @VirginAmerica with his ticket details. He was all set before the plane left the tarmac."It would have taken me longer to call, go through the whole phone tree, find someone, and authenticate myself," he said. "And if I hadn't done it when I thought about it, I might have forgotten about it."...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

It's a trend but not many businesses will be able to deliver real-time "social service like Virgin Airlines or other large companies." That's not going to stop the rise in consumer expectations for immediate solutions via twitter and other social media though. Watch for this trend to become a big issue for businesses of every size.

Why The Next Social Media Frontier Is The Past | Fast Company

Why The Next Social Media Frontier Is The Past | Fast Company | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Where does all of that real-time chatter go when the moment has passed? Some entrepreneurs think it could fuel the next generation of disruptive products.

“What are you doing right now?” Facebook asked its users in 2007.

The social network, and its peers, have since become less dedicated to the present moment. Facebook has created Timeline, a historic presentation of daily posts.Foursquare has turned its vault of real-time check-ins into a valuable recommendation engine. And Twitter recently launched a feature that allows users to download their tweet archives. For the first time, social media platforms are looking back.

By facilitating constant, real-time conversation, these platforms inevitably created a detailed log of the past. As a habit of sharing and an emerging quantified-self movement merge, the potential to recycle our real-time content grows.

The next big thing, some entrepreneurs believe, will leverage not “right now,” but “then.” Here’s why:

Content Gets Less Valuable Over Time. And Then It Gets More Valuable....

Intriguing idea and trend for marketers and social PR to follow....
