12 Video Marketing & Advertising Campaigns You'll Actually Enjoy Watching

12 Video Marketing & Advertising Campaigns You'll Actually Enjoy Watching | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Riddle me this: Why do people buy quarter-inch drill bits?

While there are a million possible answers to this question, Leo McGinneva offers perhaps the most interesting explanation.

"They don’t want quarter-inch bits. They want quarter-inch holes," he explains.

This notion suggests that as consumers, we aren't after all the bells and whistles as much as the solutions they provide. In other words, we don't want to know what brands are selling, we want to know what's in it for us....

To Thrive in This Connected Era, the Marketing Industry Must Evolve

To Thrive in This Connected Era, the Marketing Industry Must Evolve | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The idea of reimagining and reinventing everything we do, across our entire industry, for a connected world of billions, sounds like an incredible opportunity. It also sounds like an incredible amount of extra work. Do we really need to reinvent everything?

The answer is, happily: no. But we do need to learn how to connect. For all of the hyperbole, the world really is changing.

OUR NEW NORMAL

Klaus Schwab, chairman of the World Economic Forum, refers to the present era of connectivity as the "Fourth Industrial Revolution." The first Industrial Revolution was powered by water and steam, changing the way we built things. Electricity powered the second and enabled mass production. In the third, electronics and information technology accelerated scale and complexity.

Now we are in the fourth, an era of connection between our physical, digital, and biological worlds; a new phase of massive creative potential, where everyone has the power to share anything with anyone. This era brings with it an avalanche of new, creative ideas and opportunities....

Here’s how you make marketing people love | Jay Baer | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Youtility is marketing so useful, people would pay for it if you asked them to do so. This form of helpfulness is transforming the businesses of companies large and small all over the world.

Youtility is perhaps most effective, however, when applied to industries where there is not a lot of natural differentiation between competitors. One such industry is real estate, where we often think of Realtors and property managers as homogenous entities that all do, act, and say similar things.

That’s why I co-wrote Youtility for Real Estate: Why Smart Real Estate Marketing is About Help, Not Hype. This is the playbook for how real estate professionals can massively accelerate their business by fundamentally shifting how they think about value, their customers, and their marketing....

Gisele Bündchen kicks butt in a new ad breaking today for Under Armour's "I Will What I Want" campaign by Droga5.

The supermodel and wife of NFL quarterback Tom Brady (a fellow UA athletic endorser) also shows off her kung fu and yoga abilities at iwillwhatiwant.com/gisele, which will stream real-time comments from social media.

Leanne Fremar, executive creative director for UA's women's brand, gave Adweek a sneak preview of the 60-second film, which rolls out Thursday on YouTube. Look for the raw, real video to go viral—much like the previous one with Misty Copeland, which has been watched nearly 6 million times.

Creating Marketing Messages that Resonate #FutureM

This was marketing brilliance this morning — and we hadn't even rolled up to the FutureM Boston conference yet. There they were, two awesome young musicians, a violinist and a cellist, banging out tunes so crisp, so beautiful, that even the smartphone and tablet-obsessed morning Boston commuters gave a look. One commuter even approached the duo in between songs and asked if they do weddings.

Just Play Your Music

We asked the musicians if this was some sort of social experiment — similar to what the Washington Post did. The Post won a Pulitzer after it disguised violinist virtuoso Joshua Bell in a subway station and took note of the ways people noticed — or ignored — his brilliant playing....

Stoli Elit Is Using Google Trends Data to Create Holiday Instagram Posts

Stoli Elit Is Using Google Trends Data to Create Holiday Instagram Posts | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

In June, the brand's premium Elit vodka line started analyzing Google Trends data to zero in on online chatter and use it to crank out stylized posts of bottles, martini glasses and recipes. For the holidays this year when searches for martinis and vodka cocktails spike, the brand is enlisting such data to inform an Instagram campaign called Elit Live Social Lab.

If a recipe for a chocolate martini is trending online, for instance, Elit's social team will whip up and post a picture of a chocolate drink within 24 hours.

Brand manager Lauren Ryan said that when it comes to which social platforms Elit prioritizes, "Instagram is first and second for me, and Facebook follows," because the visual platform is particularly conducive to targeting luxury consumers.

"If you take too much time, that conversation is over and you miss it," Ryan said. "When we saw this as a way to approach social, we knew that it would only work if we flagged these conversations and said, 'OK, we're going to tap into this today, but this is our only day.'"...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

After you search for martini recipes this year, try checking Stolichnaya Elit's Instagram page to see pictures of what the drinks look like. Fast, creative, smart social marketing.

See The Greatest Artists In The History Of The World . . . As Emojis

See The Greatest Artists In The History Of The World . . . As Emojis | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

There's a lot of study about how the prevalence of emojis are changing the way we communicate. Linguists debate what we gain versus what we lose when we express sadness by texting a crying face rather than saying, "I'll miss you." But emojis aren't just about communication—they can be art, too.

That's the premise of a fun little campaign from Cantor Fine Art gallery in Hollywood, anyway, which for the past couple of weeks has been using its Instagram account to share emoji-fied versions of the world's greatest artists and their work—from Magritte's Son of Man to Vincent van Gogh to Georgia O'Keeffe's skulls to Keith Haring to Jackson Pollack. The breadth of the project is a big part of the fun (Damien Hirst works surprisingly well as an emoji!), but the campaign's faithfulness to both the artists and the emojis is what really elevates the project.

Emojis are a part of our culture and how we communicate now, for better or for worse, and while seeing a cute lil' Andy Warhol in sunglasses sipping from his can of Campbell's Soup is a fun gag, it does also raise the question of what a pop culture-obsessed figure like Warhol would make of this contemporary visual language. That's a fair bit of heavy lifting for a quirky campaign intended to draw attention to a fine art gallery in Los Angeles whose current show is called "Please Touch the Art," and it's the least pretentious way possible to get us thinking in those terms....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Now this is a fun campaign from Cantor Fine Art Gallery in Hollywood.

The SoDA Report (Volume 1, 2016); 2016-17 Forecast

In this volume of our biannual trend publication, we explore the theme of Evolution. Agencies, consultancies, brands and other industry thought leaders largely agree that 2016 is shaping up to be an evolve- or-die year. Or, to put a positive spin on it, we might say it’s a year to thrive through intelligent adaptation. While some agencies are going the way of the dinosaur, a forward-thinking cross-section of shops are reporting increased revenues and profits by partnering with clients in new and innovative ways, by bringing their own IP to market and more.

Other industry players need to evolve as major shifts in the way consumers use technology, consume media and engage with the world around them are forcing massive changes.

Throughout the 2016 editions of The SoDA Report, we’ll explore top trends and behaviors that leading practitioners in our industry won’t be able to ignore as the year unfolds, and we’ll cast a spotlight on brands, agencies and individuals who are flourishing in this environment. Within Modern Marketer, Industry Insider and via our Digital Outlook Study (conducted in partnership with Forrester Research for the first time), we’ll also explore how the landscape of creativity and the modus operandi for agency-client relationships are shifting in radical ways.

Spurred by rapidly changing consumer expectations and behaviors, agency-client partnerships are expanding in incredibly exciting ways beyond the marketing realm to include business strategy, R&D, product development and customer service. We are so proud of the growth and development of The SoDA Report over the past year.

The 10 Most Watched Ads on YouTube in March

The 10 Most Watched Ads on YouTube in March | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Public service advertising doesn't often go viral (indeed, PSAs rarely appear on Google and Adweek's monthly leaderboard of the most-watched ads on YouTube). But the Ad Council knocked it out of the park last month—notching almost 50 million views (it has since topped that) for the R/GA-produced "Love Has No Labels" spot.

Samsung, which often dominates the leaderboard, placed another two spots in March, battling Durex's "#Connect" ad for the No. 2 slot.

Elsewhere, Geico's unskippable pre-roll ads proved to be just that, as the family-dinner ad got more than 5 million views. And YouTube itself placed two spots on the March list, for one of its #DearMe spots and for YouTube Music Awards welcome video.

See all 10 spots below....

Worse, a bad design may be enough to send someone running back to Google and into the arms of a competitor that has a website that is easy on the eyes. A good design is simple. The arch-enemy of a good website is complexity. Why?...
