Mobile Local Marketing: Reaching the Mobile Customer : Social Media Examiner

Mobile Local Marketing: Reaching the Mobile Customer : Social Media Examiner | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

In 2017, every business should focus on mobile, Rich says, especially businesses with physical locations and a local audience.

Mobile is important because people always have their devices by their side. For example, when Rich takes his daughter to volleyball practices in different towns, he uses Waze on his phone to get directions. Then after dropping her off, he goes to Yelp to find a coffeehouse or asks Google or Siri to find the nearest supermarket so he can go shopping. While he waits in line, Rich explores Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram; plays a game; or reads a news article.

Mobile local marketing helps you reach customers who are on the go near your location.

Because people are always on their phones, local businesses can attract customers who are looking for information on the go and making immediate decisions. If those people are in your area, you can capture their business with a strong mobile presence....

Beyond Responsive Design: How to Optimize Your Website for Mobile Users

Beyond Responsive Design: How to Optimize Your Website for Mobile Users | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The algorithm change is evidence Google knows it has to surface websites that painlessly get users what they need at the time that they need it. Google doesn't want to send mobile users to websites that provide a frustrating browsing experience -- that would damage Google’s promise to its users to always deliver helpful, relevant content.

But this algorithm change is not what marketers should be reacting to. It’s a signal of a much larger shift that’s afoot. It’s the canary emerging from the mine shouting, “Consumer behavior is changing! We must adapt!”

Building a mobile-friendly website is step one, but tweaking your website will not keep you ahead of consumers’ changing behavior and expectations. In short, you have to infuse your marketing strategy with a “mobile mindset.” Here's how....

(From the article): Forming a strong mobile strategy can make or break your efforts to gain the upper hand on the competition. While many brick-and-mortar retailers originally found it hard to adjust to the eCommerce world, those that had overhauled their mobile strategies, such as Nordstrom, Walmart, Gap, and Best Buy, grew an average of 22 percent in the last quarter of 2014. Their current growth rate is even higher than total e-commerce industry growth, proving that no matter what your store size or standard, mobile marketing really does hold the power.

With 29 percent of people in all age groups having made at least one purchase on one of their mobile devices, trust in mobile shopping is definitely increasing. If you want a piece of that pie, it’s crucial for your mobile efforts to provide real value and be convenient for your customers.

Content marketers beware: Smartphone dominance for internet browsing is challenged

Content marketers beware: Smartphone dominance for internet browsing is challenged | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Tablet, smart TV and smartwatches are expected to eat into the dominance of mobile phones for internet browsing over the next year meaning that content marketing strategies need to continue to adapt to each device, according to a new report out this week.

The quarterly study of user behaviour by global mobile advertising network Buzzcity found that whilst mobile phones still dominated internet browsing amongst consumers – with 83% using the medium – the figure is actually down on 2014 when 86% of global users were using mobiles for internet browsing,

Tablets meanwhile accounted for 12% and smart TV for 10% of usage. Demand for smart TVs actually nearly doubled in the past year – up from 7% in 2014 to 12% in 2015. With 8% of those surveyed planning to buy a smartwatch in the next six to twelve months the mobile figure is expected to decline further. The study showed that whilst multi-device access, where users are surfing across two or more devices, is small currently at 9% the figure is expected to grow this year thanks to a proliferation of devices. One in ten (12%) use their laptops and PCs to access the internet....
