The Media Bubble Is Real — and Worse Than You Think

The Media Bubble Is Real — and Worse Than You Think | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The results read like a revelation. The national media really does work in a bubble, something that wasn’t true as recently as 2008. And the bubble is growing more extreme. Concentrated heavily along the coasts, the bubble is both geographic and political. If you’re a working journalist, odds aren’t just that you work in a pro-Clinton county—odds are that you reside in one of the nation’s most pro-Clinton counties. And you’ve got company: If you’re a typical reader of Politico, chances are you’re a citizen of bubbleville, too.

The “media bubble” trope might feel overused by critics of journalism who want to sneer at reporters who live in Brooklyn or California and don’t get the “real America” of southern Ohio or rural Kansas. But these numbers suggest it’s no exaggeration: Not only is the bubble real, but it’s more extreme than you might realize. And it’s driven by deep industry trends....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Politico crunched the data on where journalists work and how fast it’s changing. The results should worry you. Recommended reading! 9/10

Ten ways technology can increase customer loyalty | The Wise Marketer | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Recent figures from Gartner suggest that there will be some 30 billion web-connected devices globally by 2020 and, while this presents fantastic opportunities for marketers, our focus should be on the customer and not on the latest piece of shiny new technology, according to Barry Smith, senior consultant for Ikano Insight.

Poorly used technology could simply result in disengagement not only from communications, but from the brand altogether.

So how can you ensure that your brand is using technology to deliver the most relevant and timely communications in order to drive your customers to spend more, spend more often, and remain engaged? Ikano Insight offers the following ten tips for using technology to increase customer engagement and loyalty...

Cyborgs are the future of advertising

Cyborgs are the future of advertising | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The conversation around artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning today seems de rigueur, particularly in light of the recent introduction of “chat bots” by Facebook and other notable tech companies. With each new advancement in the field also comes the obligatory pronouncements of the impending 'robot apocalypse'. Not so much in the Terminator, Skynet-esque sense, but rather the extent to which robots can eventually replace humans in roles where decision-making is more constrained.

While there have been some promising developments, machine-based intelligence is still at the stage where it can increase efficiencies to an almost infinite scale, but still struggles to provide adequate context to the intended audience. How then can there be a role for them in creative process?

I would argue that AI can be used to drive creativity today, but only in tandem with input from human designers....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Is AI in our advertising future? No, it's here already.

This is a very interesting topic and very realistic as well, it is happening now! Using the CARS checklist to evaluate this article, I have checked the veracity of their source, plus "The Drum News" is an accurate, very well supported and credible news magazine, where they are updated regularly, they offer current newsletter subscriptions, they carry their own videos on different genres, latest media, advertising, and it also offers their own personal magazine app (The Drum app brings you some of the world's best marketing and media news, analysis and creative insights). This magazine news covers the UK and Europe's number one marketing platform, it also now covers the USA and Asia.  This is a credible site.

4 Ways the Social Media Landscape Will Change in 2016 - Pardot

4 Ways the Social Media Landscape Will Change in 2016 - Pardot | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

One of the most interesting studies I’ve read recently is Gartner’s Top Strategic Predictions for 2016 and Beyond: The Future Is a Digital Thing, a report published in October that delves into the evolving relationship between man and machine. The key takeaway? “Smart” and predictive technologies aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, and that applies to our business lives as much as it does to our personal ones.

-  By 2018, 20% of all business content will be authored by machines.

-  By 2020, smart agents will facilitate 40% of mobile interactions, and the post-app era will begin to dominate.

-  By 2018, 6 billion connected things will be requesting support.

The implications of our increasingly smart world are both inspiring and frightening (as a copywriter, hearing that machines are making their way into the content realm is particularly scary!). As I started thinking about 2016 trends, it quickly became apparent that many of these same digital themes are making their way into the content marketing and social media spaces — and have been for some time.

Let’s take a look at some of the key trends we can expect to see over the next year. How will content and social — both already digital in so many ways — become increasingly digital in 2016?...

Research: Technology Is Only Making Social Skills More Important

Research: Technology Is Only Making Social Skills More Important | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Automation anxiety reached new heights in 2013, when Carl Benedikt Frey and Michael A. Osborne, researchers at the Oxford Martin School, published a paper estimating that 47% of all U.S. jobs were “at risk” of being computerized over the next two decades. Although the jury is still out about robots stealing jobs, the pace at which AI and deep learning technologies have been advancing isn’t ebbing concerns over a future of disappearing work. As machines increasingly perform complex tasks once thought to be safely reserved for humans, the question has become harder to shrug off: What jobs will be left for people?

A new NBER working paper suggests it’ll be those that require strong social skills — which it defines as the ability to work with others — something that has proven to be much more difficult to automate. “The Growing Importance of Social Skills in the Labor Market,” shows that nearly all job growth since 1980 has been in occupations that are relatively social skill-intensive — and it argues that high-skilled, hard-to-automate jobs will increasingly demand social adeptness....
