As brand apps lose their luster, marketers need to reassess how they connect with consumers in a mobile-first world. Chatbots are one way they can speak with consumers one-on-one in a place where they are already spending the bulk of their time.

“Chatbots will replace the search window,” said Will Wiseman, chief strategy officer, PHD U.S. “There will be a rapid decline in app usage. The last three years, we have gone from brands’ desire to have mobile-friendly websites, then apps, and [we] now expect to see app activity get cannibalized by bots.”

In marketing? 4 things you need to know about the latest in ad tech - Memeburn | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Hearing the term “ad tech” makes most people think of data science and complicated formulas. While there’s a kernel of truth to this, ad tech is so much more. Over the last few years, it’s attracted a lot of outsiders, and the result is a much friendlier set of tools with an agency-esque ease of use.

Because of this, we’re now seeing companies and people move closer together in advertising transactions, eliminating barriers and unnecessary middlemen.

Ad tech opens you up to many opportunities. You now have a greater, more valuable ability to optimize, analyze, and offer companies behavioral data on the people who matter most to them. It’s still about targeting an audience — just across multiple touchpoints and platforms, with far richer data.

As long as you understand where you fit in this new digital landscape, you should be fine. But it takes a shift in focus, and you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the advancements and trends in this emerging industry. Here are four essentials you must keep in mind...

6 Tools for Personalizing Marketing in the Digital Era

6 Tools for Personalizing Marketing in the Digital Era | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

In an age of automated everything, is it possible to put a personal touch to your marketing? Of course--even though customers are used to sites like Amazon and Pandora where they can get everything they need easily without ever talking to a person. Fortunately, businesses evolve right along with consumer demands. As the head of a marketing department, it's your job to research and adopt the right technology to make your company as effective as possible. Marketing automation isn't going anywhere, but that doesn't mean your entire marketing approach has to be robotic.

No matter what, customers want to feel like they matter, like they're heard, and like there's a real person on the other end of that transaction. Recently, Help Scout, which is also a really cool customer service tool, released a report on the "personalization" of marketing. It reveals that 70 percent of final purchases are dictated by how a person feels they're being treated as a customer....

7 Marketing Technologies Every Company Must Use

7 Marketing Technologies Every Company Must Use | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

This is a wasted opportunity. Many marketers have reported rapid and significant ROI from adopting these tools; but first, they had to convince higher-ups to make the up-front investment. So, in the interest of helping clear that path, I am suggesting a Marketing Technology Starter Kit: the seven programs that every company’s marketing team should have access to, at a minimum, to grow leads, opportunities, and revenue.

These programs are essentially an online form of direct marketing. Traditionally the two most important factors in the success of direct marketing campaigns have been the list — getting the materials in front of the right audience — and the offer – offering them something that they will value and act on.

And direct marketers have been measuring and optimizing to improve results for decades, in a way that even David Ogilvy admired. In my Starter Kit you’ll see repeatedly how marketing technologies help you get in front of the right audience at the right time with the right offer. Here’s my list of seven technologies that are table stakes for today’s marketer....
