33 Dependable Sources to Get Content Marketing Ideas

33 Dependable Sources to Get Content Marketing Ideas | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

I’ve written plenty of content in this vein, including posts (and infographics) to help you generate video marketing ideas, infographics, and lead magnets, such as eBooks.

In this post, rather than GIVE you content marketing ideas, I’m going to tell you how (or where) to GET them.

Mostly, you “steal” them. But as I hope you know, I don’t mean you plagiarize the content other brands publish. That’ll get you nowhere. What I mean is marketing ideas are inspired by a myriad of resources—online and off.

The long list that follows explains exactly what I mean. I rely on these resources and you should too.

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Barry Feldman offers 33 great resources for content marketing ideas.

Marketing in the Digital Age: Trends to Watch in 2016

Marketing in the Digital Age: Trends to Watch in 2016 | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Remember 1995? That was the year we put ‘e’ in front of everything to signify that it was being done ‘electronically.’ eBusiness, eCRM, and eProcurement were all the rage.

Fast forward to 2016 and we’ve dropped the ‘e’ because doing things electronically has become the norm.  The same will happen with the term ‘Digital’ Marketing. Cisco’s CMO Karen Walker has said, “Marketing was the last function to be industrialised and the first function to be digitised.” Marching into the future, that means we’re no longer doing ‘Digital’ Marketing, we’re simply Marketing in a digital world.

As the term Digital Marketing dies and Marketing regains its place, what other trends will accelerate in 2016? Here are my thoughts....

Dr Christine Bailey shares an insightful look at the future Digital Marketing. Highly recommended. 9.5/10

Ad of the Day: An Esteemed Literary Critic Reviews the Ikea Catalog

Ad of the Day: An Esteemed Literary Critic Reviews the Ikea Catalog | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It has the world's largest print run: a staggering 220 million copies. And yet no literary critics have deemed it worthy of their commentary.

Until now.

German literary critic Hellmuth Karasek lowers himself to reading an Ikea catalog in a clip hosted by the mega-retailer's Swiss channel on YouTube.

Admittedly, it's a bit of a slog getting through the first three minutes, but once you settle into the right headspace, there's actually quite a bit to enjoy here. He references Freud and Goethe, and if he's being ironic, he's playing it so subtly you might be forgiven for taking it as an earnest review.

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Why slog through Goethe and Proust when you can just read the IKEA catalog? Literature 101 students take note. ;-)

Don’t Get Eaten! How Training Professionals Can Survive and Thrive with Software - eLearning Industry

Don’t Get Eaten! How Training Professionals Can Survive and Thrive with Software - eLearning Industry | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
So how are we to respond? I believe that no matter what your business is, you need to become the CEO of a software company. Software must be your differentiator. Software must be your competitive advantage. Software must be integrated, ingested, and ingrained in every aspect of your offering. Software must become your foundation so that you’re freed to build the rest of your offering, rather than constantly defending against new challenges posed by voracious software.
Jeff Domansky's insight:

John Peebles offers a thoughtful look at business, training and how organizations need to make software a key part of the foundation of their business.

The Sharing Age

The Sharing Age | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Imagine the possibilities of a world in which we are able to make trusted connections between a near-infinite number of people. A world in which transaction costs, time and distance are reduced to almost nil. A world that is instantly available from a smartphone, anywhere, anytime.

This global revolution, enabled by databases, search engines and connectivity, has begun. It’s allowing mankind to break free from the limits of the past. We start doing what we do best: collaborating and sharing, at an unprecedented scale — a significant untapped potential for sharing is unlocked on a whole new level, creating value for all.

Thanks to platforms that connect peers and enable the creation of interpersonal online trust, individuals are suddenly empowered to share goods, knowledge, money, skills, network, content, etc. They regain their ability to contribute more directly to society and the economy, but on a global scale, redefining relationships between economic and social actors along the way.

We are at the dawn of a new era, the sharing age, which impacts all dimensions of our relationships with others....

Here Comes the Content Marketing Shakeout | Jay Baer

Here Comes the Content Marketing Shakeout | Jay Baer | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The tick tock until the big content marketing software shakeup is under way.

... Content marketing success is about the wizard, not the wand.

You can buy the best software in the world, but if you don’t have smart, dedicated marketers to operate it, the outcome will be middling, at best. All modern marketing software (of any stripe) requires labor to make the magic happen. That makes the true cost of software ownership not just licensing and training costs, but salaries and benefits, too. It’s another reason why I’m not sure SMB will embrace content marketing with the same fervor as they have social media. Many of those companies have only recently finished swallowing the new software and personnel expenses needed to “get good” at social, and now they are expected to do it again with content marketing?...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Jay Baer reflects on the state of the content marketing industry and where customers of its software may be. A thoughtful post worth reading by software makers, content marketers, PR, advertising and marketing pros. 9/10
