Twitter Is Taking Action Against "Low-Quality Tweets" - Here's What That Means

Twitter Is Taking Action Against "Low-Quality Tweets" - Here's What That Means | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

And while Twitter has dabbled with restrictions on visibility in the past (with features like the Quality Filter), they’ve never reached as far as some of Facebook’s tweaks (like code that predicts the authenticity of a status update).

Now that Twitter faces more accusations of enabling abuse than ever, though, they’re introducing new measures that will make certain kinds of Tweets less immediately visible in the timeline.

Among other things, Twitter’s most recent update will target what they call “low-quality Tweets” – but what does that mean, exactly?...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Low-quality tweets? Who me? Time to take a second look at Twitter and what you're posting.

Elon Musk and the rise of the social executive

Elon Musk and the rise of the social executive | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Anyone paying attention to the technology world over the past few years can tell you that Elon Musk is… different. He thinks differently from most CEOs — most notably leveraging his fortune to build an electric car company that no one said would work, and two other companies at the same time. He talks differently from most CEOs, diving deep into theories on humanity and gushing about science fiction more than discussing balance sheets.

But the best measure of how he’s different is how he acts, and there’s no better place to see that in action than on Twitter.

On Twitter, Musk (@elonmusk) is an anomaly. He not only has more followers than his own car company (@TeslaMotors), but he also has more followers than @Ford, @Chevrolet and @Chrysler— combined.

His personal account gets mentioned on Twitter more often than any American car company and sees more engagement than any of them. All without the help of ad budgets and teams of social media strategists.

So what is Musk doing on social media that marketers can learn from? How has he continued to build a base of followers who hang on his every word?

I mined his Twitter feed over the past year to find out and found three strategies from his social activity that we can all learn from....

Our 10 Most Successful Tweets and the Psychology Behind Why They Worked

Our 10 Most Successful Tweets and the Psychology Behind Why They Worked | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

To gather the data for this article, I used MyTopTweet to pull together Buffer’s 10 most successful tweets and attempted to create a best-practices guide on why our top tweets worked and how marketers can repeat our success.

First, I’d love to run through the key elements of each tweet and then I’ll go into a bit more detail about each element and how you can utilize them in your own Twitter strategy.

After looking at the different types of Buffer tweets and also researching a variety of tweets from top brands, I found that there is no magic formula for virality, but there are elements to successful tweets. In other words, recurring themes continually appeared in many of the tweets that I studied.

Here are the top 10 Buffer tweets and the elements that made them great:...

Twitter's new 'Connect' tab makes it easier to find accounts to follow

Twitter's new 'Connect' tab makes it easier to find accounts to follow | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Twitter wants to make it easier to find new internet friends. A new ‘Connect’ tab on Android and iOS will link you to people and accounts it thinks you’ll enjoy following.

Although Twitter already has a ‘Who to follow’ section with a few suggestions, the idea is that Connect can give people an all-in-one hub for finding new and interesting accounts.

To come up with the suggestions, Twitter mixes in data such as who you currently follow, tweets you like, popular accounts in your local area, current trends, and more. When you open up the Connect tab, Twitter will show you why it’s making those suggestions, and it says suggestions will get better over time.

Though Twitter previously allowed you to view contacts from your address book, these are now available along with other suggestions through Connect. As before, Twitter will alert you when someone in your address book makes an account for the first time, too....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

New Twitter Connect tab will help you find interesting accounts to connect with.

Twitter Tips for Beginners: Everything I Wish I Knew When I Started

Twitter Tips for Beginners: Everything I Wish I Knew When I Started | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Before I joined Buffer, I barely had a Twitter account.

It existed by its lonesome for a few years as a placeholder for the day when my work allowed me to tweet freely. That day came when I had the privilege to join up with the Buffer team, and I dove right in, applying all the Twitter knowledge I had stowed away. And still, even with a running start, I had so much to learn.

Knowledge seldom takes the place of experience. So while I muddled through my first few weeks on Twitter—experimenting and fiddling—I noticed the many things I could have only learned by doing. Here are the big ones. Call them Twitter tips for beginners.

Maybe you can relate to some?...

Why Twitter is the Ideal Platform for Engagement | Convince and Convert

Why Twitter is the Ideal Platform for Engagement | Convince and Convert | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It is this bar-like atmosphere that makes Twitter the ultimate platform for customer engagement, and for the same reason why Twitter is the ideal social network for marketers:Twitter is the only social network where brands and consumers have an even playing field and unrestricted lines of clear, concise communication.

Engagement Goldmine

What else makes Twitter the best platform for engagement? Let’s start with audience diversity. Compared to, let’s say, Pinterest—an image-driven outlet that skews female—Twitter not only attracts a unique audience, but it makes your desired audience easy to pinpoint. Characteristics and interests are easy to discern not only through profiles, but through tweets, retweets, hashtags, etc. that the individual shares.

As we all know, in order to engage with someone, you have to be engaging—to be relevant—and Twitter helps us identify who we should engage with....

If LinkedIn is your office and Facebook is your living room, then Twitter is the bar—and a marketer's best platform for audience engagement.
