A Visual Guide to Pinterest

A Visual Guide to Pinterest | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest has slowly been building itself up as an advertising alternative to Google and Facebook over the past 12 months.

The company’s focus has historically been on building an engaged user base through its intuitive, visual interface. As a social network, it has always offered something a little different.

However, advertisers have been skeptical about whether Pinterest could ‘monetize’ this model, due to the nature of engagements users have and also the demographics that typically spend time on the site.

Those concerns have not been allayed altogether, but Pinterest has made some fascinating moves of late. They have launched a paid search partnership with Kenshoo, completely upgraded their visual search capabilities, and expanded their reach by adding a new Google Chrome extension.

Pinterest Is Working on a New 'Explore' Section for Publishers, Brands

Pinterest Is Working on a New 'Explore' Section for Publishers, Brands | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest is building a new media channel for publishers and brands to create videos and multimedia posts, according to advertisers familiar with the plans.

The Pinterest media section is similar in concept to how publishers work closely with Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, the advertising sources said speaking on condition of anonymity. The design and content would be uniquely Pinterest but it gives publishers and brands a more structured playground to share to the site.

There will be places for advertisers to buy into media sections, for now at least. A person familiar with Pinterest’s plans said the new channel’s ad offering will be pushed out initially as a test. Where the company takes it from there remains unclear....

How to Set Yourself Up for Success on Pinterest [Guide]

How to Set Yourself Up for Success on Pinterest [Guide] | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

While it doesn't get as much attention as some of the other social networks, Pinterest is definitely a platform all B2C brands need to consider. Why? Take a look at this graph from the recent Mary Meeker Internet Trends Report for 2016.

In comparison to other social networks, Pinterest users have very high purchase intent, they come to the platform to find new ideas for things to buy. And Pinterest is on a mission to capitalize on this - the platform has set itself an ambitious target to be generating $2.8 billion in annual revenue by 2018 – a big jump from the reported $169 million in revenue the platform generated in 2015. In order to reach that figure, Pinterest needs to make a series of moves, and this year, we’ve already seen them introduce new discovery options and ad capabilities to advance in that direction.

If you've never given Pinterest much thought, now might be the right time to get on board - here's an overview of how Pinterest works, what and how people are using it and the details you need to know to maximize your brand success on the platform....

Everything We Had Wrong About Pinterest Marketing

Everything We Had Wrong About Pinterest Marketing | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

I’m a bit embarrassed to share my early Pinterest Pins. But here they are anyway.

A pin loaded with hashtags, a really odd-sized image, an image with a one-word description, a Pin with no description at all.I’ve made a lot of mistakes with Pinterest, both in the Pins I’ve created and in the strategies and plans I’ve set forth. And I’ve come to discover that Pinterest is wholly unique from Twitter and Facebook, and that I’ve had things quite wrong from the start.

All these mistakes have been a wonderful opportunity to learn. I’m grateful for the chance to keep improving my Pinterest strategy, and I’d love to share with you all my mistakes and the new perspectives I’ve gained from researching and experimenting with the best ways to Pin on Pinterest....

I have been using Pinterest for almost a year now, and would recommend it to discerning professionals who would like to keep separate boards for different things. Pinterest also helps drive collaborative work as it is more likely that similar minded people will check out your boards and follow them. Added to this is the fact that as Facebook and Twitter become over used, Pinterest is a fresher platform which promotes newness. The advantage of having different boards is that you can file away different stuff in them. Teachers could have one board for lesson plans, another board for infographics, and yet another one for research materials and resources. I would definitely recommend Pinterest to all professionals who want to try something new and refreshing! Happy Pinning!

Pop the Cork: Unleashing Pinterest's Marketing Potential

Pop the Cork: Unleashing Pinterest's Marketing Potential | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Within the last five years, Pinterest has truly made its mark on consumers across the country. Twenty-one percent of U.S. online adults visit Pinterest at least monthly--more than both Instagram (16 percent) and Google+ (16 percent)--making it the third most popular social network after Facebook (70 percent) and Twitter (22 percent).

Yet, despite its rising popularity, marketers find little value from branded boards, which clearly indicates room for growth. Overall, marketing leaders remain confused, as few comprehend how to leverage Pinterest in ways that will promote proactive marketing behaviors.

XForrester notes that only 56 percent of leading brands have created Pinterest boards. Those that have established their presence, however, neglect to post regularly, collect few followers, and see little engagement. Brands recognize Pinterest's potential, but fail to execute strategies that drive results, as the social network's ads currently offer limited targeting and effectiveness....

A Sephora executive at the Mcommerce Summit: State of Mobile Commerce 2014 last week said that Pinterest’s lucrative sales leads was one of several factors in rolling out its own shoppable user-generated mobile platform earlier this year.

During the “Evolution of Digital Marketing and Commerce with Inspiring and Educational Content” session, the Sephora executive pinpointed loyalty and content as two of the biggest priorities underpinning its current mobile strategy. Most recently, the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy-owned brand rolled out a mobile and Web feature called Beauty Board that was largely fueled by the rise in mobile photo-sharing and shopping on platforms including Pinterest and Instagram.

“Everybody knows how successful Pinterest has been — Sephora’s Pinterest shoppers are actually 15 percent more valuable than our Facebook leads,” said Johnna Marcus, director of digital business development at Sephora, San Francisco....

6 Tips to Help Drive Awareness and Sales with Pinterest

6 Tips to Help Drive Awareness and Sales with Pinterest | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It’s no secret that Pinterest is one of the biggest sources of referral traffic on the Internet. And while increased traffic can help bloggers and media companies to sell more advertising, many businesses (especially e-commerce) use Pinterest to sell their products directly. For these businesses the goal is to convert traffic into paying customers.

That means making the sale.

When it comes to driving purchase-ready buyers, Pinterest comes with a lot of advantages. This is partly due to the longevity of the life of a single Pin (which sticks around in the Pinterest search engine for years) and partly due to the buying mindset and affluence of Pinterest users. For example, Shopify concludes that the typical Pinterest user spends $50 per purchase.

But to successfully convert Pinterest traffic to customers takes strategic planning. These tips for driving awareness and sales with Pinterest will help you out along the way....

Here's a few tips and pointers when it comes to spreading your influence on Pinterest. This involves many points I have highlighted in other curations.

Things like following people who post the things you posts or even joining groups that allow you to post content that coincides with the theme of that group. Pinterest wasn't initially intended for blogging, as Tumblr was. Pinterest is now entering the clog community because users can post things they've created for others to find via tagging and pinning. It can be personal, material, emotional, physically, etc. Pinterest can be used for so many different things now, which definitely opens their audience up a bit. Facebook is used mostly for connection only, whereas this site can be tamed for just about everyone. Whether your the blogger, the creator, the hacker, the photographer; this site will be of use to you!

Yet Pinterest wants to be like Facebook in one notable way: Soon some of the slick-looking photos on its site may be advertisements from the world’s biggest consumer brands — ads, Pinterest hopes, users actually want to see.
