5 Critical things you need to know about Periscope now

5 Critical things you need to know about Periscope now | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

This month Twitter started autoplaying Periscopestreams within its feed. While some marketers had previously been able to overlook the importance of livestreaming apps like Periscope, any brand with a strong Twitter presence is scurrying to catch up … As am I!

At the beginning of the week I had less than 10,000 “hearts” on Periscope, while popular people and brands tend to have more than a million.

So in anticipation of writing a best practices article for brands approaching Periscope, I interviewed Geoff Golberg. Geoff is one of the most famous livestreamers, with a following on Meerkat, Periscope, and Blab of over 40,000 people. On Periscope, Geoff has 6.3 million hearts.

Here are some key tips for using Periscope in combination with Twitter....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Periscope's new autoplay feature in Twitter streams could be a game changer. Is your brand prepared? Check out these 5 tips to fully utilize Periscope from Mark Schaefer.

How to Use Periscope in Your Content Marketing

How to Use Periscope in Your Content Marketing | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

One of the hottest online trends of the summer has been the sharing of live streaming video via apps Periscope and Meerkat. Everywhere I turn I see people shooting videos of themselves (and accompanying scenery) and sharing it via Twitter and Facebook.

This phenomenon of everyday broadcasting is turning mobile phone users into solo broadcasters, sharing everything from weekend athletic events and nightclub action, to bicycle riding and scenic beach scenes. It’s nirvana for attention seekers. And it’s expected to grow: new data from Cisco shows that globally, consumer internet video traffic will be 80 percent of all consumer Internet traffic in 2019, up from 64 percent in 2014.

And it’s not just you and I using live streaming video apps, either. Already, brands and companies are tapping into the power of live streaming video to build fans and followers for the brands, and it’s certain to become a part of the digital social marketing landscape for a long time into the foreseeable future. Let’s take a closer look at one specific platform: Persicope.....

Periscope, Meerkat and the Journalism of Now | Mediashift

Periscope, Meerkat and the Journalism of Now | Mediashift | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

This semester’s Future of Journalism assignment centered on live streaming video. In the past two months, we’ve seen the emergence of two new apps — Meerkat and Periscope — that have turned streaming video into a niche experience into something that anyone with an iPhone can do. Streaming video has been around longer than these apps, available via services such as Ustream, but these apps have added simple, elegant interfaces and social sharing ease to the mix. Regular citizens and everyday reporters alike are now broadcast reporters.

(Editor’s note: A separate post on Meerkat ran last week, and our #EdShift chat at 1 ET Tuesday, April 14, will cover streaming services and their usefulness in classes and newsrooms.)

Consider what Dan Pfeiffer, the former press secretary for President Obama, said in a post recently about live streaming and the upcoming 2016 presidential campaign:

If 2004 was about Meetup, 2008 was about Facebook, and 2012 was about Twitter, 2016 is going to be about Meerkat (or something just like it)....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Meerkat and Periscope are both interesting tools for journalism and marketing. Several Mediashift articles will help guide you in learning more. Good reading.

Here’s Why You and Everyone You Know Should Be on Periscope

Here's Why You And Everyone You Know Should Be On Periscope - The Coffeelicious - Medium

Periscope is a platform that allows content creators to gain instant feedback from their audience. You won’t get that on YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook. You are able to interact with your audience and answer their questions during the broadcast. As you begin to gain a following you’ll start seeing familiar faces and they kind of become like friends.

I am a big fan of this new app and I cannot wait to see what’s in store for Periscope. Will it change the journalism industry? Who knows. What I do know is that every content creator, salesman, inventor, techie, artist, musician, and business person should be on this app....

Jeff Domansky's insight:
