Toyota is becoming more efficient by replacing robots with humans - all about the VALUE of Knowledge

Toyota is becoming more efficient by replacing robots with humans - all about the VALUE of Knowledge | GenAI BPM | Scoop.it

Toyota is becoming more efficient by replacing robots with humans.
Toyota's latest strategy has two main aspects. First ... “To be the master of the machine, you have to have the knowledge and the skills to teach the machine.” ...

Annika McGinley's insight:

This quote really resonates with me. Librarians are used to hearing that 'You can find everything on Google'... to justify job losses in the profession. In our case, there is a big difference between finding 'information' and finding the most relevant and appropriate information for a problem. Often students don't even know what they are looking for and rely on serendipity. We have the knowledge and skills to teach people to sift through mountains of data.

Julie Ekner Koch's curator insight, April 8, 2014 8:33 AM

Toyota has been a first-mover for at long time...interesting to see if other companies follow this trend.

Being Pretty Isn’t Enough: Using the 5 Cs for eLearning Visuals

Being Pretty Isn’t Enough: Using the 5 Cs for eLearning Visuals | GenAI BPM | Scoop.it
This post looks at a simple approach to creating effective visuals for eLearning by considering the 5 Cs.

Via Beth Dichter, Kiruthika Ragupathi
Beth Dichter's curator insight, July 15, 2014 8:32 PM

How do you create effective visuals? This post provides 5 Cs to help guide you. Make sure the visual is:

* Clear

* Concise

* Connected

* Compelling

* Complete

Why is this important? People remember visuals, more so than words. As you create a visual make sure that it is easy to understand, that it shares critical information, that it engages the learners.

For each of the 5 C's consider the questions below (quoted from the post).

* Will a visual help make a point clearer?

* Will a visual summarize a point better than text?

* Will a visual help learners make connections?

* Will visuals make content more attractive?

* Will a visual help complete an idea?

Each of these questions are explored...and of course, each has a visual to help us understand the reason. Although the post is addressing eLearning, the same concepts apply in a face2face classroom.

Readers don't draw a line between self-publishers and trad publishers

Readers don't draw a line between self-publishers and trad publishers | GenAI BPM | Scoop.it

Consumers don't make a distinction between traditional publishers and self-publishers when buying ebooks, according to a wide-ranging new study.

The Book Industry Study Group’s latest report, Consumer Attitudes Towards Ebook Reading, also shows that readers prefer ebooks over print books in 10 out of 14 subject areas, including all fiction genres.

Ebooks have a big lead over print in all areas of fiction, covering romance/erotic, mystery/thriller, general, religious, young adult, science fiction/fantasy and literary.

The ebook lead is narrower in non-fiction for business/finance and history/politics/social sciences and print takes over for how-to guides/manuals and travel while comics/graphic novels and cookbooks are preferred in print by a long way....

Via Jeff Domansky
Annika McGinley's insight:

This doesn't surprise me at all - without the tangible branding that screams out from the cover, ebooks level the playing field.
